WHAT IS MICRONEEDLING?

Microneedling is a minimally invasive procedure that creates micro wounds in the skin to stimulate collagen production and takes advantage of the body’s natural healing process to treat a variety of skin conditions. For best results, a series of multiple treatments is typically recommended. Microneedling is a great treatment for people looking to address acne or surgical scars, wrinkles and fine lines, hyperpigmentation, sun damage, large pores, and uneven skin texture.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

During the treatment, tiny microchannels are created in the skin stimulating collagen production and creating that healthier, more youthful glow we’re all after. Microneedling uses a handheld device that uses extremely sharp, sterile needles to puncture the skin and stimulate collagen.

Your skin will be thoroughly cleansed and a numbing cream will be applied prior to the treatment, so you’ll be completely comfortable. You may feel some warmth and a scratching/pulling sensation as the device moves over your skin, but the numbing cream should keep pain to a minimum.

  • Microneedling is generally considered safe for most patients, but there are several factors that should be discussed with your aesthetician before treatment:

    • Dermatological Disorders – Some with conditions like psoriasis, eczema, or chronic acne may not respond well to microneedling. Those with a history of keloid scarring are not eligible for microneedling.

    • Medical History – Microneedling is not recommended for anyone who’s pregnant or has a medical history that includes certain types of infections or cancer, cardiovascular disease, or blood disorders. These conditions can affect blood platelets and prevent desired results.

    • Medications – Blood thinners as well as certain supplements can increase the risk of bruising. Please discuss all medications and supplements with your injector before treatment.

    Patients should also avoid any active ingredients of retinoids and AHA/BHA in their skincare products for at least one week prior to microneedling.

  • The entire procedure takes about an hour to complete, depending on the number of treatment areas.

  • Immediately after treatment, your skin will likely be red, swollen, and have the feeling of overall tightness or a sunburn; this can last up to a few days. You can return to your normal routine immediately after the procedure, but you should stay out of the sun until your skin heals.

  • The effects of microneedling are not permanent and we recommend treatment every four to six weeks to sustain your new glow.
